- Network & Firewall Requirements for VentureTel VoIP Services
To ensure optimal call quality and reliable connectivity with VentureTel's VoIP services, a stable high-speed internet connection with low latency and jitter is required. Sufficient bandwidth for simultaneous calls and proper router/firewall configuration are also necessary. The network firewall or router must allow outbound access to specific ports and protocols, including UDP 5060-5080 for SIP signaling and UDP 10000-20000 for RTP audio. Additionally, disabling SIP ALG and configuring Quality of Service (QoS) settings can help prevent common issues such as one-way audio and call drops.
- Configuring Fortigate Firewall for VentureTel service
To configure a Fortigate Firewall for VentureTel service, users need to make several changes to mitigate issues such as dropped calls and device registration problems. Disabling Strict Register and deleting the SIP firewall are necessary steps to prevent duplicate SIP ports and port shuffling. Additionally, disabling the SIP helper and configuring traffic shaping and VoIP settings can help resolve these issues. These changes can be made through the Command Line Interface and web GUI.
- How to Test for SIP ALG Interference
To test for SIP ALG interference, visit the Visualware SIP ALG test page and follow the instructions. If SIP ALG is detected, disable it in your router or firewall settings. Disabling SIP ALG can sometimes impact other network functions, so consult with a network professional or VentureTel support before making changes.

- SonicWall firewall VoIP configuration
The default SonicWall firewall settings may cause issues with VoIP traffic, such as problems with phone registrations, dropped calls, and one-way audio. To resolve these issues, disable Consistent NAT and SIP Transformations in the VoIP settings, and also disable Stealth Mode and RTSP in the Firewall Settings. However, the TZ400 model is an exception and requires Consistent NAT to be enabled, unless it's running firmware version SonicOS Enhanced 6.2.5.3-35n. Additionally, some firmware versions have known issues that may require toggling the Consistent NAT setting to resolve VoIP problems.
- Configure Cisco RV325 for VoIP
To configure a Cisco RV325 for VoIP, update the firmware to version 1.1.1.06 or later and navigate to the Firewall settings. Disable SPI, DoS, Block WAN Request, and SIP ALG, and enable Firewall and Remote Management. Additionally, set the UDP Timeout to 300 seconds to prevent issues with cloud-based VoIP. Saving these changes will help ensure proper VoIP functionality.
- Configuring ASUS Router for VentureTel VoIP
To configure an ASUS router for VentureTel VoIP, navigate to Advanced Settings > WAN > NAT Passthrough. Disable RTSP Passthrough and SIP Passthrough, then click Apply to save the changes. This configuration allows for proper VoIP functionality with VentureTel.
- Disabling SIP ALG
Disabling SIP-ALG is crucial for setting up QoS on a router and optimizing it for VentureTel service. Many ALGs have bugs that cause call flow and registration failures, and can miss or alter packets, leading to issues. Enabled SIP-ALG can cause problems such as stuck outbound calls, inability to receive incoming calls, and lost phone registration. Disabling SIP-ALG can help resolve these common issues and ensure proper VoIP functionality.
- QoS Testing
To run a connection test using the Visualware BCS, first download and install the software from the Visualware website, following the provided installation instructions for your platform. Once installed, you can run a test from the Visualware Connection Test Portal by selecting a location. For VentureTel VoIP, it is recommended to test against San Jose or Los Angeles if you are on the West Coast, or New York if you are on the East Coast. This will help ensure accurate results for your connection test.
